University Group is WORST THING U CAN DO TO URSELF!!! They are the most incomeptent group of people i Have ever met. The apartment was in shoddy condition when I moved in...i had to go out and buy a steamer to clean the couch and mattress because they refused to replace it..i cleaned the whole place before and after...but they took out over 300 dollar from my deposit of 400. Most Repulsive Realtor in Champaign! University Group is by far one of the worst realtors in the Champaign-Urbana area. They have horrible customer service and are rude to all their tenants. They are arrogant and therefore think it is below them to help their paying rentees with maintenance and financial issues. They issue eviction notices without reason, charge for extraneous phantom reasons, and leave customers on hold on the phone for extended periods of time. Gregory towers falling down Horrible! Gregory Towers south-facing apartments have holes in the bedroom walls so it rains on the beds and the desks. Black mold all around the bottom walls. Literally crickets coming in with the rain. Stinks of mold. Time to tear off those south-facing stucco/concrete panels and replace all the walls or it won't be fixed. Management does nothing and maintenance is rude.
If I could, I would give 0 stars. I had $860 security deposit. I moved out after living there for four years. There were no damages, I cleaned and vacuumed my rooms regularly. ******** Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, landlords CANNOT charge for routine carpet cleaning - either during the rental term or from a security deposit - no matter what the lease says. If I could, I would give 0 stars. I lived at one of University Group's properties for 2 years and it was a horrible experience. First, when you have maintenance needs you will need to wait at least a week, even if urgent (our ceiling was leaking for almost a year before properly fixed). THEN after I moved out they took me and my roommate's $1300 deposit AND charged us $400 for "cleaning". TERRIBLE MONEY SCAMMERS DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!! As usual they will keep whatever money they can from your security deposit. They charge you for cleaning even when you have cleaned after you left. They charged $138 for cleaning when that place was near spotless when we left. Any marks left are because of the age of the building. This is the WORST living situation on campus and that is saying something! I HATE LIVING HERE!! The only positive thing I have to say about University Group is that I have made it through the first six months of my lease! I could go on for days about all of the awful things UG has done during my time with them. Everyone I have talked to about living with UG has hated it. Don't waste your money because they will be SO nice right before you sign your soul over to them.
