Completed in 1908, the station was the largest train station in the world at the time it was built. In fact, if put on its side, the Washington Monument could lay within the confines of the station.
Watch out for MARC riders, they'll knock you down running for a train. Also, if you get off the red line take the exit at the opposite end of the platform, labeled "shops", fewer people run that way.
B. Dalton is now a Barnes and Noble and it's open again.
The Alamo Flags stand in the main hall has an amazing selection of pins and patches from tourist sites, law enforcement, and military at great prices. Very friendly too.
Don't walk directly to Metro - take the longer route through the main hall, appreciate the historic architecture, and be grateful you're not in Penn Station.
