Late Night=Good Time! – Went there at 2:30am with a friend on a Friday, the place was not crowded at all we sat at the bar. The Bar tender (who will remain nameless), kept pouring us shots and refilling my Sambuca that I orginially ordered, we must of had a toal of 2 double shots each and 3 other drinks. Stay Upstairs – I should have listened to all the bad reviews. The bar upstiars (Olives) has far friendlier staff, MUCH better drinks. The staff at underwheling bar was cuter than thou, ignored you and some were downright rude. Learn from my experience, do not even bother.
An Underground Get-away? – Not quite. Underbar lies below the chic and popular W hotel in Union Square. It is a nice looking bar with plenty of seating, but in the busy hours, you're standing. It also offers private niches behind curtains within the walls where a couple can sit privately and chat and be somewhat intimate. It's ok – well it is in W hotel, which is amazing, but underbar is too small and too crowded. i like the dimmed light and a lot of seatings at this place, but there just ain't enough room for most people!! Drinks were average at best. my apple martini had nearly no alcohol in it at all! people that were hanging out there were all rude and there were just too many servers walk right between you and your friends in the middle of your conversation. i wouldn't really go back here, go across the street to union bar or go to lemon... read more
Obnoxiously rude without charm – The place is ok in it's minimalist, dark setting. The drinks, average, not bad. What sets it apart is the pathetic service. I came in with friends from the UK and from work, the place was not very busy and we all sat down in a corner. Hit and Miss? – My review is based on two separate experiences within a week whild staying at the W Hotel Union Square. Each experience was quite different. The first night was horrible. Small crowd, dark atmosphere, and ZERO service despite a bored cocktail waitress proped up against the wall. Has potential – The cibe was there, and the girls i met were nice, but overall, I wasn't sure what this place was about. No room to dance, and by 11 on a Friday we went, the place cleared out. It seems like a pit stop before rolling out, but it might make a good place to bring a hot date. The waitresses are very hot.
Very Bad, Horrible Drinks – The worste bar I have been to in NY. The drinks were overpriced and weak. My vodka tonic was all tonic and ice! The service was slow and rude. Don't waste your money here. If you want both atmosphere and good drinks I recommend Flute (a few blocks away) or the downstairs of the Coffee Shop (Union Square).
