Dr. Shaw was a TERRIBLE CHOICE to do foot surgery! My wife went in with torn ligaments but at the doctors recommendation did other things that weren't necessary leading to a life time of severe pain!! My wife has a strong s-curve in her foot and her toes point down but the doctor thought her big toe looked like a hammer toe and wanted to break it and put a plate in to strengthen it which was a major bad judgment on his part! I had my first and only visit last week. The only thing about this visit that was good was seeing the doctor. ALL of the support people were horrible. I'll detail my visit in the best way I can. I arrived early to see if I could park somewhere and not have to pay or circle parking lots and streets. I walked to the front door and before I could even get in the building a lady said Do you need help? I said I'm trying to find Highlands Orthopedics. She said no with your parking. Dr Brown never looked me in the eyes to hear about my pain in my knee and wrist. Told me what the Wrist X-ray showed. Did NOT MENTION what my bad knee X-ray results were! referred me to other clinics for further testing. Very impersonal and VAGUE. Not what I expected from an Orthopedic Doctor while also having 2-3 training girls in our room at the same time. He did not have a conversation with me. He did with them in the hallway. I highly recommend UAB Sports Medicine at Highlands. I broke my arm in November and required surgery. They got me in quickly for my initial visit and I was able to see a surgeon that same day which enabled me to have surgery sooner. Dr. Smith and the other medical professionals have taken excellent care of me through the whole process. The medical staff who got me prepped for surgery were very kind and professional.
