Editorial fromWith its warm woods, soaring barrel vaulted ceilings, lavish stonework and handsome contemporary furnishings, it's no wonder that Tryg's is noted for its design. (Ask for a semi-private seat in one of the plush, 270-degree booths.) The…

Good food, terrible service – I have gone to Tryg's a number of times with my husband as we like the food, but we always have an awful experience. Every time we go, we are left sitting at the table with no server, menus are not available, left waiting to order or never receive something we've ordered. We are not going to go back.
Sunday Brunch – Sadly brunch was ruined by an obnoxiously loud jazz trio. We could not hear each other talk and left with headaches! We went to Tryg's for brunch, not a concert. We will not return on a Sunday. Service was much improved this time around, however, and the food is decent. (A good rule of thumb seems to be: If you see guys bartending, leave. If the ladies are working behind the bar, stay. They are better at what they do.)
Great Atmosphere-Even better food!! – I live in the neighborhood, and go out to eat at least 2 times a week. Now I love the options that downtown Minneapolis has to offer, but with the great atmosphere, live music, and great menu-not to mention a parking lot you could park a 747 in. Tryg's offers a great conveinient experience. Its great energy! You really should check i out!
poor service – My boyfriend and I went there the other night for a few drinks. We were in the neighborhood and there was live music. There weren't very many people there and the bar was full of empty seats. We sat down at the bar and waited for a least half an hour and watched the music. The bartender didn't even come over to us. Meanwhile all the old people got service. bartender = ageist or lazy, or only interested in plastic suburban people.
Love Thy Neighborhood and Its Only Great Restaurant – Before I start i would like to say, disgruntled employees/former employees of restaurants should not be writing reviews trashing the ownership. I live in the lakes area and have for years and could not think of a better addition to my neighborhood than Tryg's. It brings back some social graces that have been lost to the Chino Latinos and TGI Fridays of the world for cheap drinks and terrible food. Tryg's is a truly romantic setting, with beautiful architecture and a flare... read more
owner and management needs help – I have frequented tryg's restaurant for many years now. I will never return. After many disappointing meals, the reason I returned was definitely not the food. After many observations and hearing of the treatment of employees, the reason I returned was CERTAINLY not the socially awkward and social misfit of an owner. After some disappointments the servers tried to make right, but ignored by poor management, I most certainly didn't return because of gracious management. The only reason I retu... read more
Great atmosphere, average food. – Nice casual American restaurant. Went with a group and pretty much everyone liked the food although they have terrible french fries. Nice location close to lake Calhoun. Reasonable priced, our waiter was very slow with orders/refill/bill, but nice when he did show up.
Good athmoshere for groups, lacking in all other departments. – I was at Tryg's in the end of March 08' with a large party and we were all very let down. The overall apperance of the restaurant was good, but every cocktail we had tasted terrible! we thought we might eventually get one that tasted alright, but never did. While sitting in the bar waiting, we got a cold shoulder felling from the cocktail waitress we had. When we sat down to eat, we had a young waiter who did not know much about the menu and had very slow servic... read more
Great Place – I have seen so many great reviews on trygs in print, and a mix of good to bad online reviews. Heres the real story. This place offers better value than what I have seen posted ($$ not-$$$$). The general consensus is that the place is beautiful, this is true. The food is also very good, period! Great energy! You should check it out.
