Dr. Emerick is very intelligent and is great for SPECIALTY pain relief. If you need a weird nerve block that no one has ever heard of, this is your guy. But I’m very surprised he’s associate chair for the chronic pain division at UPMC. They only have two medications they offer and they don’t really help troubleshoot your ailments, unless you have one of the aforementioned strange blocks you need. I have been written off my many docs because I was caused permanent (nerve) damage by a doc in CT. After being admitted to the hospital in December of 2017, Dr. Emerick took over my case. He LISTENS and is always trying to find at least SOMETHING he can do to try and help me. We agree on trying to keep me off the OR table and he has given me 6 years thus far, past the date that the CT docs gave me until I would be bedridden for life. Dr. Emerick is a good-hearted professional who genuinely listens to patients. His compassion and attentiveness stand out. However, the overall clinic experience—scheduling, reception, and communication—needs significant improvement. If they promptly reschedule my appointment that was canceled 3 business days before that was scheduled almost 2 months ago, I'll gladly revise this review.
