Editorial fromThis family-owned place most likely had the first wood-fired pizza oven in the Bay Area two generations ago. To start, ask for the radicchio with pancetta and goat cheese. Get serious with pizzas and calzones from that well-used oven. The…

The greatest – We make it to the city 4 or 5 times a year and Tomasso's is always a must! Everything is excellent but the pizza and the service are above and beyond, the best I've had on the west coast I have been there dozens of times and I have always left pleased. Expect a wait but you will find it worthy..
Amazing thin crust pizza! Worth the wait. – AMAZING thin crust pizza. And it's taken me years to find such wonderful pizza! Small quaint little It alien place in North Beach. They don't take reservations so if you don't want to have to wait (and you will, if you don't get there early, as it is a small place) you should get there early especially if you have a group larger than 4 or 5.........you'll have to fight for the large communal table. Service is excellent, food comes out quickly and tastes fantastic and the prices are... read more
Best in the City! – Simply the best pizza in the city. You'll have to go to New York to find anything comparable. If you want amazing pizza in a warm family atmosphere, this is the place!
What a romantic, authentic Italian restaurant. Great ambiance and great dishes. Highly recommend to anyone seeking the true Italian experience.
Best off the beaten path Italian food in North Beach – Excellent marinara sauce. They have fabulous house wine, in face, any of their red wines are fantastical. The manicotti and lasagne are superb, along with any of the pizza. Our party of 9 was very pleased with all dinner and entree dishes along with the appetizers. This place does have a wait, although you can drink wine and wait in line- fantastic! The desserts add to the amazing dinner and appetizers. This is an excellent place to bring a big dinner party.
A must for visitors, and residents too! – While I lived in northern California for years, and visited San Francisco MANY!!! times, I have never actually lived in the city. Currently I live in Japan. On a visit, a friend living in the Marina area insisted we go to Tommaso's. She prepared me by saying we would probably have to wait in line, that we could get wine while in line, and the restaurant is in a somewhat seedy area. With this briefing, I was prepared. Boy, was it worth it! Had we brought children, I might have given i... read more
Best New York Style Pizza in San Francisco – This is one of the few restaurants in San Francisco that uses a real woodfire oven. The first and best pizza in New York was baked in a coal fired oven, which burns at about a thousand degrees. A woodfired oven burns at about 800 degrees. The coal and wood add not onlyl flavor, but the quick cooking makes the crust crisp and the insdie dough soft and chewy. The thin, crisp style pizza at this restaurant is most like the New York style coal fired oven baked pizza in texture and fla... read more
Nonexistent customer service, seedy location – Tommasso's is the worst customer service experience we have had not only in the US but anywhere in the world! The location is horrible and the staff is beyond rude. Do not ever go here if you value even minimal service! There are many other good Italian restaurants in North Beach so avoid this one at any cost
THE BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN SAN FRANCISCO!!! – I have been coming to this Restaurant since it opened. They have perfected the art of pizza making. Try the #13 Calzone or the Seafood Pizza for a slice of Heaven. And the Coo-Coo clams are to die for. And give yourself a treat when they put Cioppino on the monthly special menu. This is the first place I bring my out of town guests to for the San Francisco experience and they go back home bragging about the food. And you can not experience a nicer welcome from the staff at all time... read more
