Femoral nerve injury sustained during hip replacement. Although this is a known complication of a hip replacement, for one and a half years Dr. Izant told me to be patient that it would self correct and could take up to one year. He told me repetitively that it “always” goes away. 3 years later-no improvement. Pain in left leg 24/7, walk with walker, unable to use stairs due to unstable patella and femoral nerve damage. Research shows 50 percent of femoral nerve injuries do not get better. I was lied to by Dr Izant for over ... read more

had left hip replaced on 6/19. had exact same surgery on rt hip 5 years ago by different doctor in NJ. (exact same replacement hip). Dr Izant cut 10 inches of muscle during replacement. I WAS 79 @TIME OF COMPLETE HIP REPLACEMENT. NEVER HAD ANY PAIN AFTER 3RD DAY. AFTER 1 MO. I WALKED AROUND ANIMAL PARK 4 HRS! EXCELLENT SURGEON. JUST AS IPORTANT, HE LISTENS, IS CARING/COMPASSIONATE, ANSWERS ALL QUESTIONS, HAS SENSE OF HUMOR. I WAS OUT OF HOSPITAL IN 2 DAYS. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH, OR THANK THIS MAN ENOUGH FOR GIVING ME MY LIFE BACK. I WAS COMPLETELY INCAPACITATED PRIOR TO SURGERY, BECAUSE I HAD PUT IT OFF A YR. I CALLED TO LET HIM KNOW " I WAS READY", I WAS IN SURGERY IN 2 WKS??

Sustained femoral and obturator nerve damage during total hip replacement. Was continually told by Dr Izant that I would have a full recovery in one year. 16 months post op diagnosed with lumbar plexopathy-traction injury I received during surgery! Very nice man. However, I now have to live with severe leg pain and neuropathy-tried many meds without benefit! Walk with walker, live constantly with pain and neuropathy, can't do stairs and some difficulty with activities of daily living. Quality ?

Dr. Izant looks at X-rays, but listens to his patients. He explains what he sees in terms one can easily understand. He allows the patient to make their own decisions. I really like how easy it is to speak with him.
