The people who work here are wonderful. The tavern entrance bar smells like they clean with dirty water and rags so we went outside for our drink. Their pilsner is not a pilsner at the outdoor restaurant—it’s an ale. This is not really the “whisky bar” advertised on Apple Maps we expected. We didn’t order the food.

As a former sailor, and current Florida resident who frequents Key West several times a year, the Water Street Tavern & Key West bar caught my eye as both a 'first bar on the beach' (closest to the hotel we had just checked into) and potentially a little slice of 'home'. While we really enjoyed the food - wings and quesadilla, and crab soup, our bartender, Kyle, was being frequently interrupted by the owner who was 'monitoring' the bar through webcams. We ended up at Water Street Tavern & Key West Bar after looking for a casual place to grab some drinks and food, and had a really good time. The place is much bigger than it looks from the outside, with multiple dining areas, a good-sized bar, and outdoor seating in the front. They were clearly short staffed when we visited, but the two bartenders working were absolutely hustling and handled it incredibly well. I will never go back to this bar. The bartender was unpleasant from the start and more importantly for two Miller lights. It was $27 we felt robbed.
