About this business

For a mouthful of the real Texas, head down to The Salt Lick barbeque restaurant. The scenery and the rustic restaurant building all add to that perfect Southern flavor. Try the mammoth sized sandwiches or the family style meals (inclusive of pork ribs, brisket, sausage, potato salad, cole slaw, beans, pickles, onions and bread). Dig into the delicious smoky sausages or the moist briskets all made with special Salt Lick sauces. You have to leave place for the irresistible homemade desserts. It must be noted though that the r... read more

If we get within an hours drive of this place we stop by. Love the bbq. Love the sides and lemonade. Great atmosphere, great food. Can’t believe some of the reviews about not living up to hype, meat tough. I’ve been coming there for twenty five years and never been disappointed. I’ve tried Black’s, Central Market, Killen’s, Gatlin’s and many more. Salt Lick is my favorite.

Business response:

Thank you very much, Derrell! We do our best to keep up with the hype and quality we've been delivering since 1967. We appreciate your support and look forward to serving you again soon! Have a great day!

Very good food! Attentive servers. All around great place. Lots of history. We bought a cookbook there that explains the history of how it got started. Will definitely go there again when in the area!

First let me say the location was much bigger than we expected, but it was gorgeous! We did not know it was a winery/vineyard also. We made a trip from Louisiana this weekend just for Salt Lick and it was well worth the drive!! The wait was 45 minutes with a huge crowd but understandable and we didn’t mind because we sat on the beautiful deck and enjoyed the view! Our waiter, Cory, was awesome and very helpful! Our food, pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey, potatoe salad, beans, and even the pickles were a... read more

I’ve had much better. Fun to visit and check it off the list but definitely didn’t live up to the hype, at least in my opinion. Not sure what’s going on with their curious take on potato salad.... all three sides on all three of my party’s plates were untouched after the first bite. Nothing that we ordered, ribs, brisket, turkey, and sausage had any flavor. No reason to go back. Bummer. Ending on a positive note, we had zero wait time for a table and the hostess was very friendly.

I waited two weeks to write this review; wanted to give it time to calm down, no over reaction. I read all the reviews and saw it all over food network and others. I did a road trip to Austin and was definitely going there. We ordered our food. The Bison ribs were good. The problem was with the Turkey. There was BLOOD on the plate. I showed the waiter and she said that was the fat. She quickly took the plate away. The manager came and explained how the split the breast, cheese cloth and wrap it together when they cook it; ag... read more
