About this business

Located in a historic printing house, Salt House has an American menu with a tantalizing twist and hearty portions. Dishes like Salt Cod Branade and Pot Pie with Duck Confit are complemented by an intriguing list of appetizers such as freshly marinated olives and house pickled vegetables. Created by the same team behind the popular Town Hall Restaurant, the loft-like space and painted brick walls befit Salt House's SoMa location and features a communal table that adds to the charm of this much talked about restaurant.

Don't spend your Money in this restaurant, not worth it !!!!!!!!!!!! – "Salt House is overrated in my opinion. I have a really high expectations when I dine in this restaurant because of many good reviews. When we got in to the restaurant, it was very crowd and VERY VERY noisy. I have to shout to my wife for the whole dinner time. It is definitely a good place to have drinks but NOT for the food. For the price of their food, I would choose AQUA SF instead due to the atmosphere and quality of the food. Food wasn't exciting en... read more

In response to marinmezz: – I was planning to write a review of my Friday night dinner at Salt House anyway, but after reading the 7/28 posting by marinmezz, I am even more inspired to do so! Yes, our table spilled red wine on the bag. We offered to pay for the purse and provided our contact information on the spot. The guys at the table were very gracious and we hoped the incident would end at that. Unfortunately that was not the case. When marinmezz got back to her table, she stood up and yelled "Who the #@!* spilled wine ... read more

Great spot for exciting food and attentive service!!! – After frequenting Town Hall for many years now, I was excited to see these guys to open up their latest venue. The ambience at Salt House is raw, unpretetious and invinting, combining industrial-feel metal structures with exposed brick walls. The food on my first few visits has been solid and the pork belly is a definite must-have when you go. The wine list is very interesting and with a little help from the sommelier you will probaly find a new wine you have never tast... read more

Poorest Service in San francisco – I've never had poorer service in San Francisco than here. Just trying to get a reservation I was put on hold 3 times for more than 5 minutes then one time when I called back I was hung up on while on hold. Finally,I had to say "No" when she asked if I'd hold and that I'd like to speak with the manager. I had to speak with the manager just to get a reservation written on the books and he didn't seem overly concerned about the trouble I had with the receptionist. After our second course my fr... read more

This modern SoMa tavern--the city's first full-fledged gastropub--caters to attractive, cocktail-sipping foodies. – The Scene Hip indie-rock tunes fill the lofty single-room space, with the sounds reverberating off the rustic hardwood floors. Beneath dozens of thin hanging lights, boisterous bar chatter adds to the vibrant energy. Decor is sparse, save the colorful artistic portrait of a knight on one wall. Attentive waitstaff sporting white button-downs serves diners ranging from funky 20-somethings to adventurous grandpare... read more

Good food, great space, VERY inexperienced staff – This restaurant has a lot of potential. The dishes had excellent flavor and generous portions. The server was friendly, but not knowledgeable about the dishes. The hostess was completely cold, ungracious and unwelcoming. This is a pretty new restaurant so I am willing to overlook a few missteps, but they must improve their service if they hope to be successful.

Great space, friendly staff, good food – Went late on a Sat. nite and was seated right away :) Great oysters. Good selection of food, didn't like the applesauce with the ribs-wished it was mustard, salt cod was good, monkfish great. I loved the dining room, they won't take reservations for party of 10 though and there is definately room for 10 :( I'll go back again to try the steak, prices are typical.

Nice atmosphere – The food was good, but there was a very small selection to choose from. I would go again to share a nice bottle of wine, but might pass on the overly expensive food.
