Being Italian (and being and old one at that) I've made it a point to always try a new Italian kitchen every chance I get.let me just say this about that.For you locals( instead of driving to federal hill (atwells Ave) take a ride to the Ripe Tomato and I can assure you, it won't be your last visit.

We are at The Ripe Tomato - I had Steak a la Mama with pasta and pizzaiola sauce. Mmmmmmm. Excellent! Always order the pizzaiola sauce when you come here, it is WAY better than the plain marinara! I even bought some sauce to take home. YUJE portions. Great food here. Don't let the stupid traffic/construction in Apponaug deter you. Stay focussed and determined. It's worth it. Great owners, great food, great restaurant.
Cozy home atmosphere with delicious Italian food. Everything is homemade, except for the pasta. Their red sauce is light and delicious. Calamari was one of the best I ever had!
Comfy cozy Italian restaurant. The food tastes like Nonna's Kitchen. The wait staff treats you as if you were a guest in their home . Loved each time I dined there ! Treat yourself you won't be disappointed .

Without a doubt this is the best meal I've had in a very long time. Great atmosphere, tremendous service and AMAZING food. The hot Italian bread, the chicken escarole soup that tasted like it came from my Grandma's kitchen and my incredible entrée has made The Ripe Tomato my new favorite. Do yourself a favor and give them a visit, you won't be sorry. Oh yeah, and the prices are affordable.
