I came here looking for help but was met with neglect, ignorance, and a disturbing lack of compassion. The message from this facility has been that our well-being is not important, and our voices do not matter. There is a difference between professional detachment, boundaries, and abandonment. Renfrew absolutely helped me. I seriously owe them a lot. At the time I hated it there. It was scary to be around a bunch of strangers. Therapy is very hard. And I hated every rule they had. But they were all necessary rules and now I look back on my time there with nothing but fondness and appreciation for everything they taught me. It really works if you put in the effort and do what they tell you to do. It sucks but I almost died before I went to Renfrew and dieing sucks worse.
I strongly advise staying away from this place. They are disorganized, unprofessional, and uncaring, it’s just a business to them. After a very emotionally draining first consultation, I entrusted them with coordinating my daughter’s well-being. On the day of the scheduled call, they failed to show up and didn’t even have the decency to notify us to reschedule. The Renfrew Center is a con! I was a “guinea pig” a/k/a patient at the Philadelphia location in 1985 and we cleaned out our savings of $19,000 to pay for, what we thought would be a professional, intelligent and experienced treatment for my 15 years of anorexia/bulimia. Such a farce. I stuck it out for the duration never seeing any psychological staff or mental health staff.
