The Red Lion

About this business

For more than 25 years, the Red Lion has been plying its patrons with strong drinks and specials in trendy SoHo. The bar is a no-frills spot that has outdoor seating and a pretty decent menu of American fare. The bar has music seven days a week from 7pm to 4am and is a great place to watch a game from the leagues around the British Isles.

Some things never change! – I haven't been back to the Red Lion in 10 years. Kind of fell out of love with Bleecker Street when they went all banks, drug stores and condos. But I happened to be having dinner at Minetta Tavern the other night. (If you can get a seat feel blessed.) And decided to give Bleecker another shot for old times sake. Mike Tait is still Alive. He's been playing there for 17 years. All the staff behind the bar is still there. Evan remembered me from when i had a big head of hair. (I haven't been called ... read more

A Cat would Make Love to a Dog in there – Lookie here, bud. The girls is easy. The music is loud. And the drinks is strong. If you can't get something at the red lion you must be down the block somewheres thinking your in the red lion.

Looking For Love in Most of the Wrong Places – Ok this is a last ditch effort. I know this site is for reviews - but I met this guy Will at the Red Lion last week AND I lost your number! Will is a West Ham supporter. And I called the bar today cause they were playing. (I couldn't make it was too early.) The girl who answered the phone asked everybody in the place. No Mas! I am not a stalker. I just lost your number. This is Judy. I was there last Saturday night - September 25th. George was behind the bar making us Pickle Mar... read more

Above & Beyond – My baby brother has special needs. He is in a wheelchair with a ventilator attached. For his 22nd birthday we brought him up from Fort Lauderdale to celebrate for the weekend. He loves Jimi Hendrix so we took him to the Red Lion. I gotta say everybody in New York was great - against what they tell you otherwise. But the people who run the Red Lion - even the customers were off the charts. We didn't call ahead like we usually do for my brother. We were just going around and somebody had told us Jimi Hendrix s... read more

Friendly Neighborhood Bar. – I just moved to Greenwich Village, this summer. Bleecker Street to be more specific. Upon helping me move into my apartment, my father who went to college at NYU, went searching for his old stomping grounds. All he could find was the RED LION, to which I met up with him for drinks. My father actually met a singer there who he had known over 20 years ago. That was the first time I ever sat and had a drink with my father in a bar and it will always be our spot now. :) The music is a little loud at ... read more

I Am In A Shock Shower!! – I have never ever walked into a bar ever in this whole country and heard Chris Mars playing!!!!! And when I told the bartender he shook his head like he was cool as a tray of ice cubes and told me he done all the music hisself and that Chris Mars was God. Like no Biggie. I told him I just wanted to use the can. (I don't drink no more. Sorry folks.) And he told me take my time: 'This is the longest song Mars ever wrote.') And you don't even know who Chris Mars is!

Like Cheers with Live Music – My first trip to NYC, on a drunken hiatus from reality I started drinking in the Red Lion at 5 in the afternoon and did not leave until the lights went on the next day. I wish that sober Sally would have left drunk Sally a note that said mind your purse, glasses and cell phone. When I woke up the next day and realize everything was gone I thought I left it in the cab. But when I went back the next day, George had everything of mine safe behind the bar. And so began my second visitation at the Re... read more
