Beautiful hotel, but lousy service. Had no heat in our room, and they pretty much just ignored us. Then, when we returned to Emporia we discovered that the valet had taken MY Toyota keys out of the cupholder when he valet parked my friend's Honda. I called the Oread to see if they had my keys, and the valet had them.....They pretty much ignored that, also....and it took THREE phone calls and EIGHT days for my keys to be mailed....Lawrence to Emporia is 70 miles. Had a reservation tonight. We got our email confirmation for the room. We drove 2 hours too watch the KU game. We get there 1 hour before the game starts and has paid to use the hotel shuttle. We arrived and they said they had made a mistake and didn’t have a room for us. They did nothing for us. They said they could move us to a sister location 5 miles away but would not give us any kind of discount for the inconvenience. Very rude staff. Definitely would not recommend. We have stayed numerous times before and will never go... read more

The Oread is a beautiful historic site. The bar staff is the slowest I’ve ever seen though.
