I would strongly caution anyone considering The Oaks for a loved one's care. My grandfather was admitted to The Oaks for rehabilitation following knee surgery. During his stay, he developed MRSA and pneumonia. His condition was not addressed with the urgency and attention it required. He frequently requested his inhaler and would sometimes wait hours before receiving it. Despite repeated advocacy from our family regarding his declining health, we felt our concerns were ignored. This is the worst Care Facility I have ever encountered. My mom was at The Oaks of Byron Center rehab for 4 weeks after a foot surgery and was severely neglected. We had to advocate for her everyday for 4 weeks. And still she was neglected. She was treated like an 88-year-old that had no more life to live. Some of the nurses were very rude to her and would take up to 2 hours to respond to her calling for assistance. My father was placed here for rehab. They really didn’t want to do very much with him. We were there every day. They didn’t shower him for a week and we had to go down to get his clothes. He was left in the slippery chair one night and fell out of it, causing large scrape on his arm. He got MRSA from the scrape on the floor. He was sent home and my mother was never told that he had MRSA. She took him to family doctor and he told my mom. Dad died soon after.
