Fun Place – In reference to the two previous comments, I'm sorry you experience homophobia in your life, it's disappointing and regrettable. The Newsroom, however, I would not classify as "not gay friendly" or abusive to gay culture. I've been stopping through for years and been waited on by gay members of their staff. The servers are happy and some I've seen for years. I find it hard to believe a homophobic manager would hire gay employees. As for the food you brought in, it is a health code infraction to have outside open ... read more
Rude – I went to the newsroom after a Vikings game with my partner from out of town. My partner placed a souvenir bucket with some popcorn leftover from a football game we just attended on one side of the table. All was going fine, the waitress was really nice and we ordered food and drinks. We'd been there for a while enjoying ourselves, and we held hands and were having a great time when the manager came up and literally yelled " You can't have that (the popcorn) in this restaurant! It breaks health codes!" and he promptly... read more
Won't be back – Overpriced and not gay friendly. Manager was rude and embarrassed us. We felt uncomfortable and left.
Just don't go – my friend and i were looking for a place to grab a bit the other night and i suggested stopping in there because i have been by in the summer time and always wanted to check it out. the summer is probably the only time you want to go, and only because you are sitting on a patio enjoying people watching and the heat. the inside of this place is chintzy. it's filled with tvs which made my stomach turn, though the real culprit for my nausia probably had more to do with the food. it's just bad. the dinner menu is... read more
Nice space, good meal, GREAT CHICKEN WINGS – GET THE WINGS AS AN APPETIZER. The dining area is interesting with a cool news room theme. Our server was great and the food was delicious and not too expensive.
Below Average Food and Service – My boyfriend and I wanted to try out the News Room since it's close to my apartment and on the trendy "Eat Street" of Minneapolis. I'd heard there was a good atmosphere. When we got there, we were a little disappointed by the menu choices and had to ask for the sandwich menu (it comes separately). Why wouldn't they just put one on the table? The server was flaky and when my boyfriend ordered a beer, she said "I think you should have a [insert beer name] because we're doing contest to see who ... read more
Avoid breakfast – The breakfast menu is pretty small so it was tough to find something for my 3 year old. I had a ham and asparagus with goat cheese omelette and my daughter had the pancakes. While my omelette had a good taste some of the asparagus was a little undercooked and the pancakes were nothing to brag about. The service was terrible there were only three tables at the time and everything took forever even trying to pay the tab. Will NEVER go there again. And what's up with the ship in a news room???????
There are better options downtown – If you like average food and average service then the News Room is for you. You know what you'll get, but you won't be delighted.
dumb – no flair, no significance, and when I go downtown, I want that, plus decent food and service. I just don't get this place.
