Great atmosphere The Globe is not like most restaurants/bars downtown. It is more laid back, and you will find an older crowd hanging out there. The food is great, and the service is great too. They have a patio so you can sit outside. The prices are not too bad. I would recommend this restaurant!
A great place to hang out with friends and grab a pint The Globe is my favorite bar in Athens. Very laid back, very low key. The Globe caters to a more mature, more sophisticated crowd. You aren't going to find undergrads looking to hook up in this bar. You will, however, often find grad students discussing politics over a glass of wine, professors talking shop over a pint, and locals just stopping by for a drink and a chat. great bar, great lunch This is a great casual place, not dingy like some of the undergrad bars. It's also a great lunch spot during the day with delicious sandwiches- I love their croque monsieur.
Escape the kiddies For the most part, this is a graduate student and townie crowd, which we much appreciate. Nice selection of beers and wines by the glass. Haven't tried the food but they've gone after a pretty representative English pub menu.

Very sorry that you had a bad time! We used to staff poetry events upstairs but were asked by the organizers to stop taking orders because it was too much of an interruption. We'd much rather be selling product to customers at a free event. Hope you'll give us another shot on a non-event night!
We showed up for dinner and a great jazz band was playing! Such a great spot.
