The name says it all. The Church Brew Works is a brewery occupying a renovated Catholic church. A gigantic copper kettle now sits where the altar once was and the mesmerizing stained-glass windows shine light on patrons swilling distinctive ales and lagers. Oh.....My...... – I absolutely cannot believe the service that we received at this restaurant. I find that the idea of changing a church into a restaurant is wonderful and am glad that it has happened here in Pittsburgh. But, to the point, when my companions and I dined here, we were more than appalled at our service. No lie, the wait staff did not check on us for more than 45 minutes & it was not busy in the least. CBW – THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST PIZZA EVER!!! It's cooked on a wood fire, not in an oven like most places. I don't think it's romantic like the review says, it is very loud, the food is somewhat expensive as are the drinks, I think it's $4 a pint. But it's worth at least one try if you are thinking about going because it's all original beer, no Bud Light/ Miller Lite crap here and the pizza is phenomenal. GO HERE!!!!
The conversion from house of worship to temple of beer has been immaculately executed. – The Scene Nowadays, Catholics attending this renovated church won't find any confessionals; those were removed to make room for a kitchen in the early 1990s. But inside this impressive example of northern Italian-style architecture, folks of all faiths still glory in the stained-glass windows, vaulted ceilings and beautiful woodwork. romantic? – I find it very hard to believe that CBW was voted a "romantic restaurant." While very good in terms of food and beer, this place is not romantic. It is loud and the dining area is completely open. If you are looking for a quiet, intimate place to eat (i.e. romantic) go elsewhere. Like I said the place has great food and beer, but it is very loud and not romantic in the least.
Very unique – Can't be any place quite like it. Beautiful inside, but very dark at night. The only light is candles. Good, fancy food, but expensive. If you can get past the guilt of drinking beer made on an actual altar, it's worth the experience.
Good food, Great Experience – This is the place where my family loves to go when they come in from out of town. It is a nice enjoyable place for dinner and a drink. Very sociable, but can be a bit loud due to the acoustics, but I think it adds to the fun. The food is a little too out there for my tastes at times, but it is always fun to experiment. Great time!
