The Bonney Read is a gift to Asbury Park... Chef James Avery has the gift of seafood in his family lineage and in his blood... Few Chefs care more for their food and staff than Chef James... A young prospect being well shaped by the locals and new comers alike... Menu ranges in fair prices and ALWAYS has specials running daily. The staff is as welcoming as they are kind. Only a TRUE foodie would appreciate every detail though over at great length and pain that Chef James has. ENJOY!!! (Beginners welcome)...☺

They need to teach their bartenders how to make drinks. The sangria was not what I was used too, the person I was with had to change his drink order twice. The first one was a rum runner and the second a jack and coke which tasted like Vanilla Coke. Not enjoyable. The food took forever and the waitress was inattentive. The hostess tried putting us near the open door where she saw our menu flying around because it was so windy. Inexperienced people working there. And expensive.

Couldn't pull myself off the bar stool after happy hour! Bar staff was friendly, engaging, and knew their food. Chowder dog was awesome, oysters were shucked beautifully, and steamed clams were excellent. Mako Shark was the best Ive ever had, and I've had a lot! Definitely a must stop in Asbury.

LOVE Bonney Read! We go here practically every week! Wednesday- all day happy hour is our favorite. Food is exceptional. Fresh catch is my favorite...always new options and chance to experiment with new seafood I wouldn't normally try.

Went last night! Staff was super friendly, the drinks were great! My company had crabcake sliders for an appetizer (which were very much enjoyed) and crab legs and I ordered clam udon soup which was AMAZING!!!

Restaurant week at Bonney Read is a rip-off. You are forced into 3 courses with limited selections at a price higher than you would probably pay off the menu. Who wants that gooey pudding in a cup dessert anyway? Bonney Read refers to pirates and it's true! If you go, get the seafood bar option (which is only offered in the bar at happy hour). The fish and chips was unwieldy, over fried and a mess. Chowder is still great here. Waitress over charged us for two restaurant week meals while we only had one dessert.
