We had a lovely lunch here! Excellent service, water and working boat view. Our server brought gluten-free bread for one of our party which was not only incredibly accommodating but was also delicious! Hog Island oysters and lobster bisque were great, salad was huge and the cod entrees were excellent. The wine on special was very good also. All three in our party were full and happy by the end of our lunch. That's how you earn five stars and the top ratings in New Bedford, right, Black Whale?

Disappointing preparation and presentation! Something as simple as fish and chips was too tall of an order for the Black Whale to deliver as the fish batter was overly dark and overcooked and very greasy. With so many great choices to dine, i will not be returning to the Black Whale nor will i be recommending to clients or visitors.

My 2 year old's fish was way overcooked, to the point that I had to break off some of the breading so she wouldn't choke on it. Children's meals were priced at the same range as the adult meals, and sodas were flat (perhaps becauae they seem to sell more alcohol than soda). My 13 year old didn't car... read more
