everything should keep me wanting to come back, but i dont...but i do. – Upscale vietnamese is an interesting concept. It has the right background. Asian, a lot of flavor, and exotic taste. The decor is great at this place down to the place settings and cups. The service is attentive and always on the move. Seating is always prompt. Covered outdoor eating with heaters and blankets is very nice. Yet there is something about this place that completely irks me. The menu is a bit ambiguous. The staff isn't as friendly as hoped. ... read more

Authentic and good Vietnamese food, nice and clean restaurant, friendly service – I am Vietnamese and enjoy the food at Tamarind Tree very much. My favorites are the tasty appetizers such as the grilled la-lot beef roll, Tamarind Tree rolls in all variants, Vietnamese egg rolls - wrapped with the crispy rice paper or the main dish tumeric coconut rice cake. Pandan ice cream is my preferred dessert. It is the best Vietnamese restaurant for me in Little Saigon. The price for the good food quality and service is fine, and not e... read more

Enjoyable – Yes, parking here is a bit of a problem. There are very limited spaces closeby. The restaurant shares a parking lot with other Vietnamese businesses, in a kind of strip mall setting. Tamarind Tree is easily the most upscale, and crowded, establishment in the area. But although the lot was full, we were able to find parking quickly. Fortunate timing, I think. It's a busy restaurant. We got there around 7pm on a Friday night, and had about a 30 minute wait. We did not make reservations. We were with friends (4 of u... read more

Look white people! A place in the I-District where you can feel comfortable – I have never written a review on citysearch before. Look at my screen name. That's how strongly I feel about this place. I was willing to sign up for an account just to slam this place. I am guessing that the people who wrote good reviews of the Tamarind Tree are the same people who celebrate their birthday at The Cheesecake Factory. Vietnamese food is supposed to be flavorful and fresh. The food here was very watered down for the masses. I felt em... read more

Apparently, a lot of people have a lot of strong feelings about this place. – Reading the reviews below, there seem to be so many strange negative reviews and also some good positive reviews for this place, although the negatives seemed to be mostly from some time ago (at least the majority). I've been to this place a number of times and personally, I think the place is great. I've not been going here for years, maybe only since sometime last year, but I've never had a problem with the service nor the food. I don't think the... read more

Alcoholic beverages are way to expensive – The drink prices here are over the top, $8.00 for a single shot of call liquor. This was a small shot in a small glass with soda and ice. Unfortunately that took away from the over all experience. The food flavors are interesting but don't set the world on fire . Having to prepare your own wraps in a tiny bowl of water and piles of greens, makes for a lot of waste for this diner. The prepared Tamarind wraps (appetizer) are an interesting experince for the palate. Flavors are pretty ... read more

Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd – It what it is! There?s a reason this Vietnamese restaurant is packed tighter than a Tokyo subway with 30 some patrons shoehorned in shoulder to shoulder waiting an hour or more for a table, all while neighboring restaurants serving up similar dishes stand eerily quiet. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere are all spot on IF you know what to expect. I met a bunch of friends there on a Saturday night and frankly eating was not really the primary objective so the whole experience was lively ... read more

Amazing meal! – All I can say is I'm glad I live within walking distance. I go to Viet Wah market all the time for Asian ingredients but had never tried Tamarind Tree until now. We had a large table (15) and though it was a tight sqeeze at a smaller table initially, the staff warmly accomodated all of us as soon as another table came open. I've heard from others about some dodgy service in the past. Not on this packed Saturday night! The owner seated us and the service was prompt, accurate and friendly all night. Everyone in... read more

Best Vietnamese food in Seattle – No surprises here. I heard about this place from my girlfriend, who couldn't stop talking about the food. Since she's Vietnamese and a local I could only assume she knew what she was talking about. After that I read a few reviews on City Search and other community sites. Everyone says the same thing: good atmosphere, decent to good service, and fantastic food. Well I finally went last week I was not let down! If you're new to Vietnamese food I highly recommend the noodle bowls, especially th... read more
