Dr Saurino is awesome! When I visited my local optometrist, she discovered that my retina was detaching. She called Dr Saurino immediately. He instructed me to come to his office after hours (it was already closing time) so he could check my eye. Upon examination, he called St John’s and scheduled emergency surgery for me the very next day! He did an incredible job of sewing my retina back on and saving my eyesight. Love Dr. Saurino and he seems to be a very good doctor. However, plan to wait a minimum of 1 1/2 hours before you get to see him. I timed it today: 2 hours 22 minutes in the waiting room, 19 minutes in the chair, less than 4 minutes with the doctor. Looks like there could be something that could be done to shorten that at least 1 1/2 hours.
Update: We have since canceled our appointments with Dr Saurino and have found a wonderful doctor with the Saint Francis health system. The wait time was about 10 minutes and she spent over an hour and a half doing the testing and visiting with my mother (diabetic with retina and macular issues). She is a highly qualified ophthalmologist in all areas of the eye. We have a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks and then she will be doing the shots every 5 weeks. If at all possible, avoid this guy. Their technology is hopelessly outdated. They over book appointments and the normal wait is over 2 hours. They do not text you reminders . They will call you once, but they won’t leave you a voicemail if you don’t answer. While Dr. Saurino is reasonably competent, his business operations, technology, and customer service makes it a place to avoid.
