I have two separate experiences with Suncrest Hospice. My first experience was as the primary family caregiver for my grandfather. My 92 year old grandfather was discharged from a skilled nursing facility under the care of Suncrest Hospice Walnut Creek after recovering from a staph infection. I heard the “incurable” reference to my mother’s health problems and our world changed. We scrambled to find an organization that spoke Cantonese and found Carrie Huang at Suncrest Hospice a perfect match. When my mom met the care team we could see she was at ease having things explained to her in a language she was most comfortable. We picked Suncrest for our parent's hospice service because Rowena was so knowledgeable and responsive to our needs. She went right to work for us after a long detailed phone call. Whenever we feel unsure about things, she offered her helping hand. Even my parent's roommate at the nursing facility said Suncrest is much better than the service she has. Following an unexpected and unfortunate slip and fall before the Thanksgiving Holiday, my 97 year old mother fractured her left knee and subsequently sucked into the vortex of the hospital ecosystem. The last 14 days was a baptism by California health care hell fire. I worked with a hospice nurse for 2 months as part of my continuin education as a nurse, seeing clients and families, while also attending team meetings. I was very impressed by the quality of care the nurse showed. She was compassionate, skilled, and very caring. I saw her really put families at ease during often difficult and stressful times. I also got to witness the work of the social workers and chaplains out in the field at peoples homes and living spaces. I was impressed by the whole team and how they worked together.... read more
