I have seen Dr. Rivers as my primary care doctor for over 10 years. He is thorough, attentive, recommends a specialist when necessary and spends the time necessary to answer my questions.

By far the worst experience I have ever had with a health care provider. More than once my labs were sent to out of network providers. Because of this I was responsible for the cost of labs. I contacted the office, and they told me they never check to see if someone is in network or not. They said that is typical practice. My doctors in the past have always used my in-network providers. All doctors I have spoken with, and my insurance company told me that is not standard practice to use out of network providers. This practic... read more

If there was an option to leave zero stars, I would. I have been a patient with Summit Medical for nearly 10 years. They discharged me as a patient at the worst time in my life. Completely abandoned me in my time of need. If you have mental health issues of any kind, this is not the medical office for you. Absolutely no empathy whatsoever. Avoid at all costs. They are the worst.

DO NOT GO TO SUMMIT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE CATTLE!!!! I have been a patient with summit medical for years. The level of care has steadily gone down. I saw a new nurse practitioner one month ago for my prescription refills. After the visit my meds were not sent to the pharmacy so when i went to refill the anti depressant meds i was not able to get them. Had my first visit with one of the doctors and decided to change because he left my first appointment 2 times to go see other patients. When I wanted another doctor the office got upset and said that she would have to have it approved by her superiors . They do not like you changing doctors. Week later called and said who do you want to see. Picked out another doctor in the group named Dr.LauraThoma. Do not go here. I was scheduled for a nerve conduction test, waited the 5 weeks for my appointment only to be told by them that my insurance (bcbs of Alabama) requires a neurologist to perform the test, which they do not have. I contacted my insurance company, who said that was not true and that another qualified provider could do so. Insurance company contacted the provider who then stated it was their policy to not bill nerve conduction tests to out of state insurances. This was very different than what Summit told me. The billing department is rude! They have over billed us $158 and now won't give us our money back. Not a single statement shows our payments, which tells me there is something shady going on. We had to call them and walk them through each charge and payment in order to prove to them we were over charged. I am also filing a complaint with the BBB. Do not go to anyone associated with Summit unless you have money or time you don't need.
