My mother was taken from her memory care facility to Wentworth Douglass Hospital even though the family had Portsmouth as her preferred hospital. I was told by staff at the facility the driver made the decision. I contacted the company and they did not reply. IMO this could be a life threatening decision. Her records were in Portsmouth, and WWD had old information from years ago, including the wrong emergency contact information. I was the primary caregiver of my mother (she is now deceased) and we used Stewarts Ambulance service to transport my mother from the hospital to my apartment. The ambulance driver (a transgendered person) and her female colleague drove my mother, who has dementia, home to my apartment. However, there were a few things which I thought were inappropriate: 1. Stewart's provided me with excellent service from the EMTs to Amanda in Billing. Very thoughtful and kind.

BEWARE. If living in Maine, Do not use this company! They refuse to submit bills for patients who live in Maine to Medicare. Medicare stated this transport should be covered under Medicare B (since I could not walk and transported from Hospital to Nursing Home/Rehab). Medicare then will send balance to my supplemental ins co. Medicare suggested that I do not pay this bill unless denied by them. Also if Stuarts submits this bill and it is denied, then it will count towards my yearly deductible. If not submitted then this char... read more
