Please avoid this hospital & all Ascension / UAB Medicine offerings. I was patient dumped here (EMTALA) and had no insurance and stated source of income. Multiple visits & gradually higher levels of scanning but they would not acknowledge the broken basilar skull injury (occipital condyle / condylar canal) or several diameter infection that appeared in the MRI / CT / X-RAY I had to go back in and find AFTER I GOT MY RECORDS! My adult daughter just had a horrible experience Friday in ER. She complained of double vision, weakness, violently throwing up, so I called paramedics. She was taken in by ambulance . When I arrived to ER waiting room, my daughter was sitting there hardly able to sit up, so I went to desk and told them something was seriously wrong, that she had lost a kidney in 2016. I had the absolute best nurse I’ve ever had. Her name is Bonnie. The way she treated me with respect and kindness at all times.The way she humanized me was one of the best things I’ve experienced which is a surprise, especially when you’re in pain and having health issues! She did her job so well, yet she is fairly new to the nursing field, but I didn’t notice because she’s just meant for this position. She’s met her calling. I also like Jenny, she was kind and sweet. Thank you for such great service.
A visit to St. Vincents ER was a very unsatisfied experience. Sit most all day waiting for help I never received, then got sent to main UAB ER and received no help there either. (No communication between hospitals) Was needing to see an orthopedic dr. for a follow up for a possible returning infection that I was treated for while in St. Vincents for lung diaphram plication surgery. Finally had to go home and contact the orthopedic surgeon myself. Not a way to run an ER!
