Your employee who called the police on the woman for eating while black needs to be fired. The officer who clearly saw her eating and minding her own business should be fired too.
By standing up for ALL students, and firing the employee in question. Racism does not belong anywhere, but particularly at an establishment that considers itself a prestigious beacon of education. It tarnishes Smith College that really nothing has been done. They issued an apology, but talk is cheap. Action is what's called for.
Fire the racist immediately. The fact that you would protect this employee is unconscionable
Just saw that student on tv and my heart broke. I just want to hug her. Smith, you have a big problem with that hateful employee and I advise any student of goodwill to reconsider their matriculation. Shame on your campus culture that this could happen! Just shame!
If you are any shade of brown DON'T SEND YOUR KIDS HERE! Apparently it is so rare to see a Black face here the employees call the police if you dare walk on their campus. Talk about creating a hostile environment and unequal treatment. I would never send my children here. Sickening that you hire racists like this to represent your school.
Shame on you for not taking the right action. I would like to hear that the person who made the false call is identified to Oumou Kanoute. Why should she not be allowed to speak to the person that made the call?
So, there's only one black person at this school that your school feels afraid when a student of color walks around your campus? Pathetic. Racist.
Racism will not be tolerated. You need to ensure African American students feel safe on campus, it’s their right. And if someone racially profiles one of your students already facing tons of discrimination, that person should not be at a place with many vulnerable people they can target.
