Simpatica was born out of our butcher counter in Citymarket Northwest in January of 2005. We quickly realized that we would need more space to accommodate our burgeoning catering company. In June of 2005, we moved into the Pine Street Studios building (828 SE Ash St.), and following in December that same year, Simpatica Dining Hall opened to host our public dinners and brunch. At Simpatica, the main reason that we got into catering was to offer a unique experience. We push ourselves to offer food that rivals top restaurants ... read more

Best dining experience! – My husband and I have tried and eaten at many restaurants in this city. Simpatica's was one of the best dining experiences we have had. Each course presented was exceptional. They take great strides in using locally produced ingredients. It makes it pricey because of this fact, but worth the extra costs. This is a dining experiences we hope to repeat.
Unfair Review – The previous review was incredibly unfair. While the dining experience was no doubt ruined by a heinous bunch, the restaurant, food, and staff were never mentioned. I found Simpatica to be a pleasant and elegant establishment, with experienced and knowledgeable staff. I am not a vegetarian and understand how the menu might pose a few challenges if you were, but since their menu changes all the time anyway it might just have been the week that we chose to go.
Worst Dining Experience in my Entire Life – These are excerpts from a letter I sent to Simpatica after a horrid dining experience at their establishment. Space restrictions here required abridging it. I received no reply from Simpatica: I made my reservations weeks in advance and had planned a nice evening of taking my boyfriend out to a fine meal. We are both social people that enjoy meeting other couples and groups so the family-style dining was not averse to us. Unfortunately we ended up next to a group of people that wer... read more
Understated and Elegant – I went out with a couple of my closest friends during the holidays, in which one of them was a vegetarian. I absolutely loved the house smoked trout with tarragon sabayon, and my friend's savory mushroom crepes (the main course) were warm, seasonal, and delicious. The wine pairings that we got with each course brought out the harmonious nuances of each dish, in addition to complimenting the unique notes of the wines. We were all especially pleased with the dessert - the poached pear, caramel sauce, ... read more
Absolutely wonderful!! – I want to start this by saying I usually don't write reviews on this website. However, I was kinda appalled by the two reviews on the main page, and this is one restaurant in town that doesn't deserve the negative banter. I do question the intelligence level of the reviewer who brought vegetarians to Simpatica, with it being a set-menu, hams hanging from the ceiling, meat is in almost everything kind of place, and then go to every food reviewing website on the internet to complain they wouldn't accom... read more
Never heard back in regards to their Catering Service.... – I contacted Simpatica via email in regards to catering an event. The got back to me promptly and I gave them details of the event and asked for a proposal. After several days I hadn't heard anything. I called and asked about the status and they let me know that the menu committee meets once a week and then I would hear back. That was 2 weeks ago and I have heard NOTHING... too bad.
Best place for brunch – Good place to go with a big group of friends Great Place for brunch on sunday morning Not a good place with vegetarian options Great mimosas! Cool vibe and atmosphere
Sunday Brunch = A+ – I went to Simpatica for a friends' birthday brunch a couple months ago. We were a party of seven so the wait was pretty intense, and the hallway in which you wait to be seated (as noted by other reviewers), is pretty echo-y and narrow-- not conducive to conversation. (Thank goodness the people in line get coffee! (: ) As the owners' are experienced butcher shop types, you really want to go for the meats--- they're simply incredible. (Vegans and vegetarians, while you could be satisfied, you might find mo... read more
Best Food Value in PDX – We had an incredible 4 course meal for $35 per head. Beef tenderloin with sweet potato fries was the most amazing entree I have had in a long time. The mussel appitizer was incredibly flavorful. This is a must dine place for anyone who loves food. The wines were a little expensive, but I am also not a big wine guy.
