Absolutely worst hospital I have been to for possible hernia surgery. They accept you as a patient keep and you waiting for several months while they do multiple blood tests and review a hematologist's consultation notes only to say you are not a suitable candidate for surgery due to a high platelet count which they say could cause internal bleeding, yet this actually makes the blood thicker and more easy to clot, rather than cause internal bleeding so they are full of B.S. Shouldice may have a great track record with some patients but I definately had a nightmare of an experience there. Going on 1 year and 4 months of agonizing illoinguinal nerve pains steady from 4 to 7 out of 10. Haven't had a pain free day since November 27th, 2024 when Dr. Bodie operated on me. Won't go into detail unless needed. Closed my business, lost my ability to walk with assistance, no longer able to do any of my hobbies, not even light excercise. Had 3 hernia repairs. Nurses were very nice, food was great. Very nice lounge. Only complaint is I had some rude PSWs and rooms a bit warmer than I like but I brought a fan so not a big deal, and they woke me up at 6am because that’s when they were rounding (let me sleep, but nothing new in hospitals). Also they need more ice packs, they were usually not frozen when they gave them too me.
The Shouldice Hospital is absolutely the best place to get a hernia repair done in Canada. They have been at it for over 80 years and have their “shouldice technique” totally figured out. This is a private hospital which is a rarity in this Country but, if you are from Ontario the hernia repair is covered by OHIP and all you pay for is the semi private room and board costs. We can’t say enough good things about Shouldice Hospital. My uncle recently had his surgery there, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. The doctors were professional, knowledgeable, and very reassuring. The nurses were kind, attentive, and always ready to help. We truly felt my dad was in the best hands. A special thank you to Anisa.
