I have to say one of the worst bedside manners I have ever experienced. I honestly thought that I would have to come up with bail money as my son was so visibly upset with the experience and said that no one should have the power to treat any other person with that lack of compassion or lack of respect. When I saw him for my initial assessment he asked if I had any other medical issues. When I told him he stated "I've never heard of that" & shrugged his shoulder & did not pursue that question further! On the surgery date he stood beside my bed and asked " Do you remember me?" No further introduction was forthcoming & due to the fact he was dressed in his OR scrubs & the fact I had seen him only once before I found this to be very unprofessional!! He did not have the courtesy to read the referring doctors letter or look at any X-rays. He seems to disrespect seniors and had little compassion or time to explain things. He did all the talking and allowed little time for questions. If this is how he treats his patients when they are awake, what kind of regard does he have for bodies under anesthetic! Will be seeking a second opinion.
He repaired my knee. Very thorough with explaining everything about the procedure and the injury. Home grown talent and trained right here and the joke of a health care system lets him get away. I since had another knee injury and was referred to another surgeon and knowing what I know from my first time, this other guy lacks bedside manner, the ability to explain things and general compassion for his patients. Way to go RQHR.
I am also VERY upset that Dr. Ekert is not allowed to practice in Regina! Took me years to find a very qualified and personable surgeon! Dr. Ekert, has the MD behind his name but NOT the 'attitude' most surgeons have! This is indeed a very great loss for us here.
I am upset to hear that Dr.Ekert is no longer a RQHR employee. That is truly their loss and ours. I was lucky to have been referred to him after a snowboarding accident tore multiple ligaments in my knee. I hope they realize their mistake and bring him back to Saskatchewan!!
As part of our Canadian 'brain drain' he's off to Colombus Ohio for work. I lucked out and saw him a few weeks ago as a walk-in patient while out-of-province working in Alberta. I had atypical pain in my hip/down my leg that was getting progressively worse. I had my MRI/fluoroscopic guided hip joint injection 6 days later and since he's gone, I've got a follow up appointment with a sports doctor he sent my file to back home. The Regina Health Region is making a big mistake letting Dr. Ekert go.....I have nothing but good to say about him as has everyone else who has been his patient
Dr.Ekert is a valuable assest to our province. He has a vast knowledge of orthopedic proceduers, specializing in the hip. I saw Dr.Ekert and he basically gave me my life back. He assessed my injury a d determined the operation that I should have and I went from constant pain and not being able to walk on my own to no pain and walking with a cane, which I will not need in a little while. He is a wonderful doctor and I definitely recommend him orthopedic problems.
