What is not to like about this place? There is a natural ecosystem that fits every level of outdoors preference. You want a garden with gazebos and benches? You got it. You want a more naturalized area? You got it. Trails are well maintained, so you do not have to beat your own path. Please do visit. You will love it.
We live about 20 minutes from Shaw Nature Reserve and get a membership here every year. We have walked on all of their trails with our family and friends. It is by FAR one of the best parks around. Our kids love walking these trails and playing at their playground. It is always a hit for us.
Beautiful!! Well cared for and clean facilities and grounds. The staff are friendly and helpful. We arrived a few minutes before one of the gates was scheduled to be closed. The young woman who greeted us asked if we were wishing to go down to the river and offered to call down and request of the staff who close the gate to hold off until after we'd gone through. So very thoughtful of them all!! We had enough time to walk to the river and enjoy a couple of hours of the lovely reserve before closing time.
Great music. Lovely evening.
Wonderful, refreshing and rejuvenating place to encounter nature--beautiful! I love all the wildflowers and birds! There's always something blooming. The landscape/terrain is variable and makes hiking fun.
I love going out to Shaw Nature Reserve to get away from the craziness of life! Here it is peaceful yet full of energy....the buzzing of bees, the songs of the birds, the beauty of the flowers and the strength of the trees, and of course the lizards, rabbits, squirrels and an occasional deer along the way! No better way to get recharged! Questions about anything, the visitor center will have or can get you the answer. Many wonderful programs for toddlers, children and adults are offered. Thank you for being there SNR!
Awesome hiking trails! The wildflowers are just amazing right now in the summertime. Also, the wetlands are amazing with the tropical water lilies covering the entire ponds.
Beautiful place, can’t wait to go back and walk some trails in other seasons also
The naturalist and staff at Shaw have created thousands of acres of some of the most pristine natural habitat in MO. As a birder and conservationist I think Shaw is the poster child for grow native, plant native and bring native Missouri back. Now ask yourself a question: what can I do in my backyard to bring native Missouri back? Great job everyone. Mike Doyen Founder GREAT MISSOURI BIRDING TRAIL
