Located on Jones Street is one of the two outlets of Shalimar Restaurant. Offering a wonderful Pakistani and Indian fare, Shalimar is easily one of the most popular Asian restaurants around. The chicken tikka comes highly recommended along with the onion kulcha. If you're craving for some spicy Indian or Pakistani curries at reasonable prices head here, this joint wont disappoint you.

My favorite Indian retaurant in SF I haven't been to a whole lot of Indian restaurants, but this is the best one that I've been to in the bay area! This is a great choice for large groups. You can order many dishes and try everything! My favorite Indian dish, Chicken Masala, is excellent here! The garlic naan is to die for. The good thing is that there are several locations around the bay area - I have been to the 2 locations in SF, and I hope to check out the one in Union City sometime soon. (I had Naan & Curry for the firs... read more
Best Indian Food in the City – Fabulous naan. The chicken tikka masala was spicy and delicious. We had a super filling meal for $20 total for 2 people, including drinks. The decor isn't much, but who cares? You're there for the cheap and tasty food.
The best Indian food in the Bay There's no doubt that Shalimar serves the best Indo-Pakistani food. They receive rave reviews from time to time, but what has amazed me is that their performance is really consistent. They now have several branches throughout the bayy. It's in a shady part of town - Tenderloin, but the restaurant and the street is crowded with customers making it feel safe enough to hang out late. They are open pretty late on weekends (1 am). there's a garage across the street that offers cheap parking. Don't ... read more
too oily, too spicy... too bad – There was a pool of oil in every dish, and everything was so spicy that by the end it all just tasted the same. The naan was nice and fresh, but nothing spectacular. Either the quality here is dwindling or the competition is getting more fierce, either way count me out on shalimar.
Best Cheap Indian I've found yet – Menu has lots of options: I tried my old stand-by Chicken Tikka Masala. It's been the best I've had in the city, and I plan on going back to try more. Dining room was crowded, noisy since it is divided by the kitchen only by a metal counter. I waited for 5 min to order, and couldn't pay until after I was done (usual for counter service places). Food came out quick (2 min?) and was nice and hot. Not great for a romatic date, but go for the food (can also take-out).
best indian food in the tenderloin – I highly recommend the aloo naan and chicken kofta. What's great is they don't use cream in their sauces, so the taste is unique from all the other Indian/Pakistani places in the Loin.
You'll Love It - HIGHLY Recommend – If you like spicy food Indian curry style, you'll love Shalimar. It for sure is not a fancy restaurant but who needs fancy when ya get good food and a clean place to eat it.
Good Food but Beware ... – The food is really very good, healthy, and also fresh. I've also tried all the deserts, all very good. The ambience is as bad as it gets but always packed with all kinds of people. Don't expect much. The reason I gave them a lower review was because twice now I was overcharged there. I read another reviewer that said the same here on citysearch and it really upset me how they keep the food costs down but add a little more in the end. Each time it was $2-4. BAD BUSINESS! Service is okay, they really... read more
AMAZING! – This is one of my favorite places in the city! We eat there all the time, and have NEVER been disappointed! It is authentic, and therefore can be a bit spicy, so just be sure to order rice or nan with your main dish. It is fast, open late and not as difficult to park as the upper areas of union square. I LOVE IT!
