I am Shade's wife. I am going to call him Shade because he doesn't like to be called Dr. Whalen. As his wife, I see him when he is not at work but I can tell you that when your children are sick or having challenges he cares as if they are his own. We have four children and our son has special needs. Shade understands the struggles of parents that don't have a typical developing child. He is a very special man that wants, above all, to make a difference in your child's life.
Dr. Whalen is a pediatrician that is practicing medicine because he truly cares about all children and wants nothing but the best for every child. He always takes the time needed with our children & never rushes us. Even my very complicated daughter that can be naughty - he doesn’t see that - he sees her as a child that is loved & created in the image of God & dr. Whalen gives her the care she needs. Dr. Whalen is an excellent pediatrician who genuinely cares for the children he treats. He takes the extra time to build a relationship with his patients and understand their individual needs. He does not ignore a parent’s concern but listens and treats as needed. He is always willing to squeeze you in his schedule when needed. As a doctor seeing a patient child he was good and communicated very well with us. As a pediatrician interacting with a child we were NOT impressed. Whalen took, without asking, my son’s blanket he carries around for comfort, and then told my son he needed to say please to get it back. Also, my son had bumps on his bottom and Whalen asked me to show him. He let my son know he wasn’t going to touch him, but that mom (me) was going to show him.
