I am RIDICULOUSLY picky when hiring someone to cut my hair. When I moved to Astoria, I was terrified at the idea of having to find a new stylist and so the search began. I saw that Shade Bar spa! had really great reviews
When initially scheduling my appointment, the person on the phone was very pleasant to talk to. I explained my fears and asked them to recommend someone to me who was really good with bangs. They immediately suggested Sabrina and that was who I was paired up with.I get there, and I am warmly greeted by Sabrina. After washing my hair and getting a great scalp massage, I was seated in the chair and asked what my thoughts were on the look I was going for.I showed her a few photos of what stood out to me, without giving too much detail and direction, because I look at her as a hair artist. I'm a photographer so I know where to draw the line on telling an artist how to do their job. She looked at the photos for a few seconds and said "I know exactly what you want and what I know will look good on you!" The way she said it made me feel so comfortable, I just trusted her and let her do her thing. so out of character for me. Somewhere along the way I told her that I wouldn't mind having it short if she thought it would look good with my body & face shape. She agreed. Eight inches off later, I am left with the most beautiful, feminine, flattering, and just plain dang amazing haircut that I have ever asked for or imagined. And to top it off, she suggested a hair vitamin that would help with my thinning hair (I was losing a lot of it with every shower I took). I was a bit skeptical. But after taking the recommended dosage religiously for one month, I kid you not, I now lose maybe 1-2 STRANDS of hair with every shower. This coming from the same girl who used to lose clumps in the shower every day. Unbelievable. I still take my vitamins and plan on it for a very long time. After 4 months my hair is already looking significantly fuller. It still boggles me, and I will be forever grateful to Sabrina for that.
