I have been going to this restaurant all my life. The seafood here is always outstanding. They have recently added a new bar area that looks like the stern/cockpit area of a fishing boat. It certainly added new life to this restaurant! They have also added a nice floating dock outside that makes it easy to visit by boat. I would always recommend this place to tourists as I think no vacation in Carteret County would be complete without a visit to The Sanitary Restaurant.
Only So-so – Once this place deserved its good reputation, but now they are trading on the past. Food is only OK. Service is hurried and indifferent. Go to Long John Silver's!
Great view! – The Sanitary Fish Market is a tradition with our family! While fried seafood is a specialty there, they also have steamed, broiled, and grilled items. The hush puppies are to die for, and I love the key lime pie too! Try to get a table next to the windows in back for a great view of the water!
