Dark, cozy, elegant and intimate, Russian Tea Time has only been here since 1993, however it has since become a Chicago treasure. Inside the elegant Mahogany and Birch dining room, the kitchen serves specialties from the former Soviet republics which includes every where from Tajikistan to Belarus. Start with the Ukrainian Borscht and Pumpkin Vareniki dumplings, then move on to the Moldavian Meatballs while you let your ears wander to the sound of Balalaika music overhead. This has become a popular spot with nearby Symphony ... read more

Russian Tea Time Restaurant is the best place for lunch, afternoon tea, or dinner before or after a show downtown, and has been for 24 years! My favorites: Ukrainian Borschch, Meat Blinchiki, Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, Beef Stroganoff, pelmeni, varyeniki.... heck, everything here is delicious! Their vegetarian selections of salads and stews are so amazing and scrumptious that, were I a vegetarian, I could eat here every day. Did I mention the Russian Tea? Black currant flavored nectar of the gods. And The desserts?!? Wow. Try th... read more
Everything but everything was perfect!!! Food and service.
Love it & I’d go again. The teas were excellent, food, Russian decor (historic atmosphere) & nice staff!
We had a wonderful time dining at Russian Tea Time during our visit to Chicago. Our server did an excellent job of directing us towards menu items that we loved. The restaurant was clean, service and food were wonderful, and we had fun trying the house infused vodkas.
Afternoon tea; it was very disappointing. The food was mediocre and we left 2/3 of it uneaten. It was disappointing that the waiter never asked us how it was despite seeing the abundance of untouched food. Won’t eat here again.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere! Thanks for a great evening! Very authentic!
My favorite spot. I choose it whenever I have someone else paying!!! Always highly pleasing and exquisite service. Love it for all times.
I came in after a Gallery Talk and walking around the displays at The Art Institute. Russian Tea time is literally a 1-minute walk from the museum. Had a late lunch (lunch menu ends at 4pm, got there at 3pm). I didn't want a huge entree, so ordered off the appetizers menu. A "cup" of Ukrainian Borscht (hot, with sour cream on the side) was as large as a bowl in other restaurants and incredibly flavorful and satisfying. Pumpkin Piroshkies was my "main course," puff pastry...Continue Reading
