I rented a vehicle from Routes Car Rental in March 2023. At the **************** office, the rep stated that they charge $350 deposit and when the car is brought back the amount would be refunded back to the card or by whatever payment method was used. Upon returning the vehicle, I waited for 2 weeks then called the company. The rep referred me to the customer service at *****************************. Absolutely lousy, they make up rules as they go along. They charge a ridiculous amount for deposit. They need a copy of your gas bill to rent if you don't have a round trip ticket. And they are RUDE!!

BEWARE! This has to be the worst car rental company I've ever rented from in my life. I pre-paid for my rental through Expedia, $191.17. I initially rented for 4 days, the car's "check engine" light went on, so I returned the car and decided to extend my rental for another 3 days to take care of family obligations. The exchange was PAINFUL. We had gone through 3 other vehicles because every time I drove off the lot, the tire pressure light or check engine lights would turn on. I PRE-Paid the full rental amount through Priceline. Upon arrival at the *** airport I went to the designated shuttle bus pick-up location.As I was stressed waiting for the shuttle, I called the office over 10 times. ALL THE CALLS WENT UNANSWERED AND THE VOICEMAIL WAS FULL. I was able to leave a message once but the others attempt were unsuccessful due to the full voicemail. They are professional extortionists. I made travel over a week out and didn't get any contact about special requirements until 10 hours before my flight. After I received a poorly worded text that stated Routes doesn't rent to Georgia residents, I called to confirm. (Backstory: I recently moved out of Georgia and was returning to Atlanta for business, but I still hadn't changed my license. Avoid this place at all cost. I booked a rental through a travel agency. When I got there I was charged for insurance because they don’t accept the insurance that’s offered with the agency. Also I was charged an additional fee to cross the state line (nowhere before pick up was this mentioned). My flight ended up getting cancelled so I had to extend the rental. My $251 car rental turned into $600. Because I did not have a credit card in my own name (it was in my husband's name and approved by management prior to my arrival) I was told that in order to rent a vehicle, I would have to sign up for ALL of the available insurance coverage even though I had insurance through my own company. I was not given the option to decline the insurance. And was told that if they accepted my husband's credit card, I was required to accept their insurance. There's one credit card machine for the three terminals that the associates use... So get ready to stand in line for 35 mins at least. If you attempt to decline their insurance which is $24.99/day they will tell you that they need proof that your insurance policy covers rentals. They won't call your insurance company, they will make you call you insurance company. The car I rented was dirty and was badly in need of a front end alignment. My $200 car rental turned into $407.00. Was never told of extra charges. A $8.99 per day out of state fee and a $24.99 per day insurance fee. I was not given the option to accept or decline the insurance. The car I had, had damage on one side, was not clean on the inside, I had trouble with the tires needing air all the time the electronics in the car were all screwed up.
