There is little doubt that The Carlyle, with its magnificent view of Central Park and its close proximity to some of the best shops and museums in New York, is one of the preeminent "grand hotels" in New York. The Upper East Side landmark was built in 1930, when spacious accommodations, fine linens and furniture, and a large and attentive staff were the very least that might be expected for a true luxury hotel; and that tradition continues even today.

Still A Great Experience – If you are thinking of reading the menu from right to left, then forget this place. If a cover charge that matches a Broadway ticket is offensive, then pass. This is a venerable club from the old world carriage trade, as they used to say, in New York. The headliners are sensational and the room is as intimate as it gets. Be prepared to drop a bundle, but escape to a world that is slowly disappearing and needs to be remembered.
Good place – good place, good food
Go for the entertainment, Not the food – Two things - if I could, I would rate the Cafe Carlyle as a restaurant about a 2.5 or 3. But, I would rate the entertainment portion an absolute 5. We went to see Christine Ebersole, as she was the replacement for the incomparable Eartha Kitt. She was absolutely amazing, and we had a terrific table front and center. The entertainment portion of the evening was just magical! Dinner, however, was just okay. I guess my expectation level was too high, but I expected more than just standar... read more
cozyy – This is one of the finest restaurants I've ever been to. And that's saying a lot since I am such a miser when it comes to five star ratings. A classic "you get what you pay for," and here, you don't get much for $5... or $50... or $100. At Cafe Carlyle, everything is grade A from ambiance, service, and food. They are flawless.
Legendary singers cast the spell at one of New York's most famous cabarets. – In Short What do Eartha Kitt, Bobby Short and Woody Allen have in common? They've all wowed audiences at the Carlyle Hotel's 70-seat supper club. The renovated room (last touched in 1955) shows off the musically playfull Marcel Vertes murals, and dinner-and-a-song lovers can take advantage of chef James Sakatos's menu of upscale classics like foie gras terrine, dover sole and creme brulee. Banquettes rim the room and cast the focal point on the sta... read more
Wow. In more ways than one. – We saw Elaine Stritch perform here last year, but I'm just getting around to writing a review. We had 7:00 reservations for dinner, so we were already most of the way through our wonderful (but VERY expensive) dinner by the time her show started at 8:45. (Important note - check the hotel's web site and see if dinner is required with tickets; sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, and you may be able to go just for the later show and drinks) The show was incredible - the room is so small you feel l... read more
Great Food, Great Service, Great Ambiance, Great Place!!!!!!!!!! – I tend to go to restaurants quite often, I love sitting in a table, taste good food along with a great wine and talk with the people I go out with. To be honest, I never thought of going to the Restaurant Carlyle, I thought it was too much for me and too classical. To my surprise it was indeed classical but the moment I stepped foot into the hotel, I was greeted by a attentive gentleman who (with a great smile) asked me if I had a reservation, to which I resp... read more
Amazing! – I go out dinning all the time in NYC, I never eat home. I can go to a small burger joint or to a 3 star Michelin restaurant, depending on who I go with (entertaining clients, etc...). A few weeks ago I wanted to take my wife out for dinner but did not want to go far (we live UES), we decided to go to The Carlyle Restaurant, at The Carlyle Hotel. I thought it would be another simple, boring, hotel restaurant meal. But it was not like that AT ALL! It was certainly one of the very best meals I have had in town. From ... read more
Old-school rules: Unparalleled class, comfort and service for generations of guests and residents. – With beautiful apartment-sized rooms, an understated vibe, unique furnishings and personalized service, it feels like home--and some lucky people do actually live here. Presidents, royalty and stars love it for its grace and discretion. The entire hotel was restored in 2001 by acclaimed designer Thierry W. Despont. Many of the 179 rooms and suites feature park views and terraces. Antique furnishings, twice-daily maid service ... read more
