Dissapointed – Very cool building, at least on the exterior. The inside is pretty dark, but some may find it adds character. I went to the restaurant and it was quite smokey, particularly for Portland. The beer list looks pretty good, but it turns out they only have a small percentage of those in stock. The waiter was clueless, and he kept bringing us beers other then the ones we ordered. He was surprised when we questioned the fact that he was giving us something other then we ordered. This behavior struck me as odd. The fo... read more
I used to really dig this bar – About 4 years ago, the bar was sold, and for the first year or two, it was bliss. About a year and a half ago, some really questionable choices were made: the beer menu was rearranged in a way that was disorganized and the food and beer prices increased. The menu was also revamped, but they added some nice items such as BBQ pork, an antipasti plate, and a superb grilled cheese. This summer, the prices rose again and the menu took a wrong turn, deleting the grilled cheese, cobb salad, and potat... read more
Best Big Beer Joint in Portland – One of the best selections of beer in Town. Northwest to Belgians styles. Three Beer Engines, all with quality brews. Old world deco with a well kept Victorian feel. Bartenders are always friendly and helpful. Service was OVER the TOP, when I walked in with 15 beer guys for beer and tasting session. They gave us the private Green Room, provided us with our own server (waiter) and tended to our every need. All without a reservation or prior request. I would advise you reserve a space, to save... read more
Every silver lining has a cloud... – I adore the Rose and Raindrop, they have a fantastic wait staff, free wireless access, a nifty fish tank and fantastic food. Yet for all this there is a price, and it's not the cost of the beer. I have to agree with previous reviewers, the service on Friday nights leaves much to be desired. Their weekend brunch is to die for, the beer selection stays current with the seasons, and their specials are divine. I couldn't agree more with the Mercury's Bar Guide last week, if you want a drink g... read more
cute but pricey and smokey – It's a nice place, interesting furniture and archicture (has a McMenamins look). Open but can be smokey even in the non-bar section. The hamburger was very tasty, but fries were pretty overcooked and uninteresting. Food and drink prices are very high, but beer selection was pretty good. Free wireless internet makes it a nice place to hold a meeting (on a weeknight).
Never Again on a Friday – I have been to Rose and Raindrop many times, usually on Sunday evenings. The service has been great, especially from the bartender and bar side waitress. HOWEVER, I was just in for my second Friday in a row and I will not be back while the staff is the same. The bar waitress Friday night gave by far the worst service I have had anywhere in a long time. She was far too busy visiting with friends and coworkers to be helpful at all, and the bartender was doing much the same. After my great Sunday exper... read more
Great Spot – One of my favorite after work spots...good selection of beer!
I love this place – Well, I just love this place. The comfy chairs, the beer selection, the fact that I can smoke in the bar room without annoying the 3 non-smokers sitting in the huge dining room. The food is decent, but could stand some improvement. The service issues described by other users are most likely the result of one particulary inefficient waitress, and I have experienced those issues with that waitress myself. Don't judge the place on her though - the other waitresses are outstanding.
Like an old hotel bar – Lots of brass and wood, beat-up but comfortable chairs. They're big enough that you can always find a table or booth, they've got free wireless Internet access, and they make a good, reasonably priced drink. Can't vouch for the food, but this place has everything I'm looking for -- either for a drink with friends or a casual business meeting during the day.
