HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! After travelling from west to east in the US, I had to mostly guess and use sites like this to choose my accommodation. Needless to say I had some disapointments. The Morningside Inn was not one of these..... The friendly staff went out of their way to satisfy any needs and the room was cleaned and left with fresh towels daily. We stayed at the Morningside Inn in November of 2011. My husband & son had been to NY but it was my daughter & my first time. We were somewhat on a budget so we had to be frugal. We found this hotel on a search engine & booked it...we couldn't have been happier! The location is excellent, close to the subway that will take you anywhere in the city. We booked a triple room with shared bathroom and stayed in the hotel for 9 days. The first day we arrived earlier than the checkin time, aroun 11am, the hotel manager kindly offered to keep our luggage until our room was ready. We got room 406, it has one double bed and a single, a large TV a small fridge and a closet. There are two bathrooms in the 4th floor and a kitchen with a sink, a microwave and an oven, you can cook there if you have the proper gear because there are no pans or other cooking items. The hotel was in a fab location, 5 min walk to subway which we used all the time, we purchased a week subway ticket for 27 dollar which made travelling around very easy. 103 st was just a few stops from all the important sight seeing spots. The room was clean, towels changed whilst we were there, bed comfortable, staff very friendly, found it very quiet and cosy, I would have no problems staying here again if I went back to New York.

My decision to stay here was based on the location near the subway line a ride away from midtown. I enjoyed walking Broadway and Riverside park . Last time I stayed in Queens and it was long ride in the subway. You are paying to stay in a safe neighborhood blocks away from Columbia University, I really can't say much for the amenities of the room when you have the city so close. Stayed here for a weekend, couldn't believe how cheap this place was considering how nice it is! You get a good-sized private room like a regular hotel, but for a hostel price. Our room had a window that opened out onto the fire escape, so we got a balcony. Room had dressers, a closet, decent beds, was bright and clean. Bathrooms were quite clean too and towels are provided. There is free wifi, but only in the basement lounge. Very clean, great location, just few streets to subway station, a lot of shops and restaurants around hotel, nice area:) you have great price, air condition, hot water, and clean bed- everything you need;-) I totally recommend this!:)

Great neighborhood with excellent restaurants nearby. The bathroom was a bit cramped but everything worked as it should. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This may be a one star hotel but it is a very good one.
