I've only seen Kevin and Marlene, but in my experience, they have helped me so much. Kevin listens, when the meds weren't working, or had bad side effects, he didn't stop until we found a winning combo. And he found it. I don't mind the long wait because if I need extra time, they are happy to give it. I always hear people complaining about the wait. horrible experience for my 84 yr old mother. She had gone to him for over 1 yr without resolution to her problems. He over-medicated her and while in the ER due to falling because of over medication, they demanded he stop over-medicating my mother. She continued to go to him in fear no one else would take her. When I called him out on it in the last appoitment , he said he would no longer see my mother. He said he is too old for this! Get out of the medical field if you are to old to help patients! VERY Toxic owners and some staff. Yelling at patiences who didn’t want to wait 3 hours beyond appointment time. Still charged the fee even though couldn’t stay. Owner threatened to discharge patient because they didn’t want to wait 3 hours beyond . When patient asked for the personal paper work the owner laughed and said I read all the patients documents and yours included. Just very disappointed........ would give negative stars if an option.
This is a frustrating place. I find Dr. Birkmire himself to be a highly intelligent guy, and have really enjoyed our conversations. He helped me realize some truths I’ve dealt with my whole life, all within one hour at times. The bad thing is THE POOR SCHEDULING. I believe his office books appointments in 15 minute increments, yet people stay much longer during their visits. This causes patients to wait a considerable amount of time. HORRIBLE. YELLS at patients if they question the wait time, so stressed after the appointment ( that didn’t happen) that it increased my stress and anxiety levels. Do yourself a favor and go to a more considerate office. Zero stars.
I have no idea why some people are leaving negative reviews about Dr. Birkmire. In my view, you could not ask for a better psychiatrist. I saw him in the early 2000s, for over a few years. He cares, he remembers, he speaks frankly with you, he talked to my spouse, and most importantly, he saved my life. Use this man if your mental health is failing you! Dr B is the only psychiatrist I've ever found that I like. Been a patient for over 2 years, and moved, drive 1.5 hours for an appointment with him. He takes his time, talks to you, won't overmedicate, makes you feel at ease & works hard to get you the right combo of meds to work.
I never once actually met with Dr. Birkmire, only his PAs. They were nice enough, but the office itself was horrific. The staff (all but 1 I met) were rude. They changed their system so now you can't even call the office for emergency issues or medication issues, you have to submit some email on some online system and HOPE they get back to you soon enough. They also got my prescription mixed up on multiple occasions and fixing it was a nightmare & I was scared several times of missing doses.
Dr. Birkmire and Kevin Kearney are two if the most brilliant at diagnosis and treatment. They don't start with harsh meds. Dr Birkmire is also a neurologist do he understands how the medication work with the brain chemistry. Kevin is a Nurse Practitioner and has worked with Dr. Birkmire for more than 20 years. You must have patience because he take a while with each patients getting to understand their unique issues. Highly recommend to everyone. Joanne Policastro
