Wow, I cannot say enough about how horrible this psychiatrist office is. They do not care at all and Dr. Birkmire is very hot and cold. You will have an appointment with him and he will be super late and tell you that “his office doesn’t run on a Swiss watch”. My loved one was having a mental health crisis and had an appointment with Dr. Birkmire to get help. I (Sidney) have never posted a non 5 Star review. I've always believed and I've always tried to practice that if you cannot say anything nice, then don't say anything. This is an exception. We've known Dr. B for about 20 years. During these years Kim saw Dr. B and Kevin with appointments several times a year. We even knew Dr. B outside of work; but Kim has not been there in a few years - though we've referred other current patients and even family, who are current patients. I love talking to Dr. Birkmire! No matter what is going on in life that day, he seems to just know based on tone of voice, what your dealing with. The fact that he spends X amount of time with his patients because they need to talk, is awesome! If he runs behind, it’s only because he’s spending time with another person in need of advice. The trouble is scheduling appointments. Calling to make one doesn't help; you get a recording to leave a message which is, at best, rarely returned. When you call, you get a recording from Dr Birkmeyer telling you to make an appointment through the patient portal. The problem with that is that when you get there, there is nowhere to go to make one. The therapeutic benefits aside (they're OK when you can access them), it's a pretty schlocky operation.
His office has policies that that are unheard of . You sign a release at the beginning that says if you try to commit suicide they will no longer see you a a patient. He does only phone calls now, and on the phone, you think he knows who you are, but after a few second you realize that he has not even looked at your chart, He asked me if I had ever considered that I might be bipolar and a medication that I should try, I had to tell him that I was seeing him for a bipolar diagnosis for over a year and he already had me on the... read more
Takes the time to listen and his staff always gets right back to you
ZERO STARS if it would let me. Very very disappointed in Dr. Rex Birkmire and his office staff!!! We were charged for an appointment we never agreed to and his staff was so disorganized and rude! The office manager yelled at us on the phone with Dr. Birkmire standing next to her in approval where he went on to say we are terminated from treatment and to never return to his office! This review is for Kevin who I've been seeing for 8 years. Kevin is an excellent communicator and empathetic. When I meet with him it's not just as a patient but a friend and I always look forward to the next session.
The staff failed to let us know the appointment was changed to a Tele conference. The staff including the office manager were very rude and confrontational. Dr. Birkmire was shouting at us and told us to leave his property and called the police.
