Pueblo Solis

4.3

About this business

A small restaurant located in South St. Louis, Pueblo Solis serves up traditional fare that is definitely a cut above typical Mexican fast food restaurant. The bright, festive décor provides the proper ambiance while sipping a Margarita. The food is expertly prepared, and all the traditional favorites like quesadillas and an excellent guacamole are on the menu. However, for something different, try one their terrific seafood entrees like the Broiled Salmon with Spinach.

Love this place!! – Since I live down the street, I have visited Pueblo Solis several times since 2002. Each time I have been greeted with a smiling face and jovial attitudes. I love the atmosphere. It's cozy and inviting! From the margaritas through the three types of salsa to the specials and choice items on the menu, we have never had a bad experience here. Go during the week if you don't like spending time by the bar waiting for a table...

least romantic – after spending over 45 minutes waiting in a hot sweaty line; we were told it would only be a few minutes more at least 4 times. we waited in line for over an hour. we were finally seated in a very croweded dining area that was not much larger than the livable side of my basement. the only thing "romantic" about the entire restaurant was the candle in the center of a very small table. we were crammed in the dining room with other diners shoulder to shoulder at other tables surrounding us. the food was OK at b... read more

Authentic, affordable and often adventurous Mexican restaurant wakes up drowsy taste buds. – In Short This intimate, pleasantly dim dining room (think muted beige and terra cotta) contains no Mexican flags, no wrought iron railings and no pinatas. Chatting professionals, young couples and area families enjoy a menu that straddles the line between familiar and adventuresome, such as potato quesadillas with asadero cheese and roasted chicken with achiote. Try a bowl of menudo, a spicy tripe soup, or escabeche, a Spanish dish o... read more

THIS is Mexican food – This is Mexican food is all about. Fresh, seasonal vegetables and presentation showed such care and pride. The restaurant might be tight in space, and there's always a wait, but having eatened in many mexican restaurant, and dined with Mexican friends, this is by far the most pleasing to the palate.

A Favorite – We live in the neighborhood and eat here @least 1x/month. I noted the negative comments about service/food. But honestly, we've never had bad service...it is small, and we have had to wait for a table on several occasions. But, we've always been impressed w/how attentive the staff was @filling drinks, etc. LOVE the food...from the specials (the cured pork chop w/sweet potatoes was incredible), shrimp diablo, soft tacos (my husband craves these), enchiladas, tamales, and guacamole. We'll con't to be back on a reg... read more

Tasty tamales! – My wie & I had a very nice meal here. I had the mixed tamales and she had the Voddoo Shrimp & pasta. Both were delicious, when they say spicy they mean it!

9 – My husband and I love this restaurant. The rice is the best and we love the chicken with mole sauce. Yummy!

Good Food – We went early on a Friday evening, so we did not have a wait...the place is small and cramped inside, so I would recommend getting there early. The food was very good....some of the best Mexican I've had in St. Louis. Their margaritas were very good (and I typically don't like margaritas b/c of the tequila), and their guacamole was excellent (another food item I'm not usually fond of). Their homemade salsa was too hot for me. Next time I go, I will probably ask for the pico de gallo (a lot milder) to go with my c... read more

Burned Twice – I live within walking distance so I was pleased when they opened. Unfortunately I tried them twice and was disappointed both times. The tables are so jammed together you can't move in your chair once you are seated. The food was mediocre at best. Warmed over Old El Paso. My wife had a Fajita the second time that was absolutely disgusting. More like squid than steak in texture. Service was MIA. Sorry, I know this place is popular, There are always people waiting to get in but I can't figure out why. Take the ti... read more
