A couple months back my son was flown to this NICU from Fairbanks just hours after having him. I remember being terrified and in a state of shock, I didn’t know if he was going to be okay. The nurses and nurse practitioners helped explain everything to me, showed me around, explained each and every process and assured me they would do everything they could to help him. Most of the staff is polite and personable. Some of the NICU nurses are not enjoyable. In its hay day 11 years ago the amenities were better, while understandably expensive to upgrade, the equipment is outdated, chairs are over used and needing replaced. Even the daily equipment there isn’t enough of anymore, like properly calibrated scales. White boards have outdated information on them, paint in the rooms is faded or chemical stained and damaged.
