Front desk people are rude. You are dealing with people in stressful situations. Kindness always wins. Humans are all equally important.
The care we received when my daughter broke her leg was excellent. The doctors, nurses, techs, and staff were professional and kind. However the red tape with IHC is absurd. They provided NO written aftercare instructions. So relying on memory only. In order to get written instructions I would have had to go into a clinic or email a notorized form. The U of U provides printed written instructions and a digital version after every visit. I am disappointed with IHC’s systems.
After my son’s surgery, his surgeon did not make time to tell me how the procedure went. Then in the recovery room, when then nurses were getting ready to augment his pain meds , they were calculating looking at the wrong patients chart. They kept saying his last dose of Tylenol was at 1630 when I said it was 1500, till finally after a lot of back and forth- they realized the mistake! I was in town for the holidays and Elizabeth was kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and informative. She definitely made our tough situation better, and I would recommend her and her colleagues to anyone.
Please make it possible for parents of children with broken legs and arms to reach someone at the fracture clinic in a timely manner. This should not take hours/days on end. The general orthopedic staff who transfer you to the fracture clinic voicemail insist that live humans are there and will pick up the phone or call back the same day, but our experience is that no one picks up and our voicemails remain unreturned.
