While I had a fantastic weekend in Austin and absolutely loved the hotel's prime location and amazing views, there were a few significant downsides. Be prepared for a mandatory $30 nightly parking fee. Which I feel should be included in the price while booking. More concerning, I encountered at least eight little roaches during my stay. Additionally, I was incorrectly charged an extra $70 after checkout, which, thankfully, was resolved with a phone call. Rooms are good. Location is okay if you’re looking for a place right next to the highway, including the occasional homeless person. What really bothered me is how the staff does not care about your privacy. Some staff members apparently just go into your room before check out and wonder around in your house. When getting dressed, I caught this person and they tried to leave in a rush. When confronted they kept pointing at my shoes and kept peaking into the house. This person did not speak English at all. Reasons NOT to ever stay at a Placemakr property. It is not a hotel. It is a couple of guys taking unrented apartments and converting them into short term rentals. Why does that matter? Let me tell you about our experience at their Buzzard Point property in Washington D.C.1. They do not honor reservations. They agreed to hold a block of 50 rooms for us for a wedding reception.
