This authentic French patisserie with a hip Portland twist serves fine desserts, beer and wine until late. Choose from exquisitely wrought chocolates, an extensive and impressive wine and beer selection, macaroons of the day, and their famous specialty deserts that are almost too pretty to eat. Often crowded, your patience will be rewarded with the first bite at Pix/Bar Vivant. Choose from the mirrored case before you let the knowledgeable wait staff recommend a pairing. A small lunch menu is also available. Bring a date to ... read more

Not so Friendly – I experienced a similar problem with being asked to leave at 10:00, being under 21. The gentleman working at the counter was delightful but the woman (perhaps she is the owner) was very rude. Ordinarily I wouldn't say anything, but it was the second time she had been absolutely impolite and tactless. Other employees not included! On a positive note, the desserts are fantastic, decadent and pure art.
Who Knows? – My wife, 4 year old son and myself were excited to meet our friends here for dessert, as its reputation was growing rapidly. It was a busy Saturday night at about 9:50 when we were seated. Right after our water was brought, we were asked to leave, as minors are not allowed after 10:00 (the sign is posted low down on the end of the pastry case. Not exactly obvious). We found it extremely unprofessional that we were given a table when the staff should have informed us of the rule at the time we asked for a table f... read more
Chocaholics, rejoice! – I love the little details here, like the baby spoon and lumps of raw sugar they serve alongside your coffee. The menus are adorably presented inside quirky bookcovers and invite leisurely perusal. Or, you can walk up to the dessert case and point! Wine/beer pairings are recommended for every dessert, taking the guesswork out of ordering. The chocolate selections range from rich and decadant to light and sweet. We've tried the Tart Menage a trois, Amelie, Royale, Dobos Torte, and the Concord; all divin... read more
AMELIE & WILLY WONKA'S LOVE CHILD – If you've ever wondered what licking chocolate fluff off an impossibly decadent pastry in a romantic & quirky little cafe in Paris, 1920 would be like--look no further. Pix is that kinda place.
Deelish! – It's obvious that the owner is a master of all things sweet. I'm sending everyone I know to this place. Try the Royale with cheese. I wanted to melt the dessert and bathe in it.
Typical Spot That Makes Portland Great – After dinner and drinks a date and I stopped here for dessert. I loved the casual cafe style atmosphere and the desserts were great! It was busy without being crowded which was great, and it was a great end to an evening. I'd definitely recommend taking someone here late at night for great desserts and coffee, even though the later it is the fewer desserts are offered far as I could tell.
"Pix"ture Perfect – Upbeat, quirky, and oh, so good! This new little dessert shop is more like a boutique, with its glass cases displaying edible treasures. Pastry chef, Cheryl Wakerhauser creates masterful desserts that combine unique flavors and artful presentation. To sample as many flavors as possible, try the dim sum which offers bite size samples of the desserts. Be sure to go early, however, because at night the little shop is cramed to capacity with eager patrons.
Not bad, not good – We had lunch at Papa Haydn and skipped dessert to try Pix only to be disappointed. I had the Jane Avril and my husband had the the Royale. The treats were mediocre and overpriced (5$ for a morsel the size of a cupcake). The service was good, however, and the tiny shoppe quaint. Perhaps the chocolates selection would have been a better choice, but we will never again skip dessert at Papa Haydn to opt for Pix.
This is how dessert should be done – This place is fantastic. Papa Hayden's doesn't have competition.... they have been outdone by far. These desserts are fantastic, well priced, and the staff are super nice (Papa Hayden's may want to take a note on the last one). If you are looking for a place to have a cup of coffee or beer and superb desserts, look no farther!
