Piccolo Forno

4.5

About this business

Piccolo Forno is a modest Italian eatery located at Butler Street along the 38th Street intersection. A simple set of toppings are available, but despite the small number of options, few complaints can be heard about the food. Along with the pizzas, the salads, sandwiches and paninisare also highly recommended. End your meal with with some nice tiramisu.

Looking for a demeaning experience at a glorified PIZZA PLACE? I promise anger, mediocre food, time limits. The area has great eateries - NOT this one. Amazing they get away with it. Don't let them.

Spent hundreds, yet rushed out hours before closing time – I recently went to Piccolo for my birthday dinner, party of 12. We got reservations, but were surprised to learn there was a time limit on our table-on a Thursday night. Our reservations were for 630, and we sat, had dinner and a lot of fun-despite the vastly underwhelming nd apathetic customer service. The food was decent, some dished were better than others-i do not reccomend the lasagna. When 830 came around, the staff at Piccolo rushed us out. There were no parti... read more

Not worth the wait – A friend and I wanted to try this restaurant. We got there and the hostess said the wait would be about 35 mins. An hour later we finally got seated. My friend ordered a pizza. I ordered pasta. She got her pizza...while I waited another 10 mins for my food!!! I thought they forgot my order! When I got mine it wasn't even hot! I probably would not go back to this restaurant....as there are many other good places to eat in Pittsburgh.

It's great...for Pittsburgh – This place has a cool ambiance that is unique to Pittsburgh. The menu is, however, disappointing. Nothing tastes as good as it appears to based on it's description in the menu. And, since there aren't really any other options like Piccolo Forno in this city, let's just say I won't complain. And for all the ignorant Pittsburghers who love Piccolo Forno as a pizzaria, please, immediately catch a flight to New York, dine at Keste (west village), and then we can discuss "authentic, delicious, ITALIA... read more

Outstanding pasta-spinach ravioli – Go for the spinach ravioli or the panzanella salad. This place has the best italian food for the money.

Wonderful pizza – The pizza and salads here are great and the restaurant is a delight to dine in. The brick walls and decor make for a relaxed, sophisticated dining space. Staff are attentive and helpful.

Great Food – Although many of the reviews concentrate on the pizza, our experience has been with the dinner entrees which are fresh and tasty. All entrees are made to order and the amounts are just right. Many times we go to restaurants where bigger is better. This is not always true. Piccolo Forno is a friendly place where friends should meet to enjoy the deliciious fare. My favorite is the Crispella di Funghi and the Lasagna Toscano is the best I've eaten. Piccolo Forno reminds me of the many restaurants in NYC's little It... read more

Friendly, nice range of choices for what to eat. – Service was very courteous during our 1 hr wait for a table (our bad timing I guess). My insalata di finocchio was very nice. And the cheese and meat plate was fine. Ordered the margherita pizza- MUCH better than Fiori's (thank you, Jesus) but still not GREAT. The crust had a consistent thickness from the rim through the center which made the over texture of the pie a little odd. There was a slight crisp, still too chewy for me- but thank you for using good, bubbly cheese (n... read more

REAL NAPOLI Style Pizza. The BEST in town period. – To give you some background I am not from the "burgh". This fact alone is worth noting. I have eaten at Lombardis in NYC, Johns NYC, UNO Chicago, Regina Margherita, Il Piazzolo as well as Fioris, Campattis, Mineos, Vincents and every other have decent place in the burgh and after many many POOR reccomendations on this site I have decided to fight back. This is the best true pizza in the burgh hands down. Its not even close. As if having great pizza wasnt enough its a really... read more
