Phil and Sons very unsatisfactory Phil and Sons in Newburyport provided me with one of the worst auto repair experiences I've ever had. They mis-diagnosed my fuel problem, snapped a screw on my distributor. When they fixed that they installed the distributor cap 180 degrees out of position causing more problems that ended up costing me more money. Very Honest! I was told about Phil and Sons from a friend after a very bad experience at another repair shop in town. They checked my car for FREE and told me I didn't need half of the things the other place tried to sell me. My car is running great and I'm very happy. It isn't everyday you find a business that is still family owned! I have told everyone I know about them and will continue to do so!
Reliable Mechanic Great people, and that's what service is all about! Phil and Sons is so easy to deal with and they get your car in and out quickly. They are very reasonably prices compared with some other shops too. Waiting area is comfortable and kid friendly, with a TV to watch while waiting for the oil change, etc. Easy to find on Merrimac Street near the Ferraz company building across the street.
Shady Practices I went to Phil & Son's to have a transmission switch changed. They ended up breaking my shifter and console. They never told me about it When I found the issue and brought the car back, they tried to super glue the console with globs of glue and told me they couldn't fix the shifter, I was out of luck. The console glue job never held because of the loose shifter. I won't go back and I tell everyone I meet about the problems I had there.
Really Great Auto Repair Place I never take the time to review a business but after reading the other reviewer, I too feel compelled. After living in the Newburyport area for about 4 years and searching for a decent and reliable auto repair establishment, we are relieved to finally find one. After two very bad and very expensive experiences with State St Mobil and Angies Service Station on Plum Island, dealing with Phil's was like a breath of fresh air. Phil & Sons Auto is the best place around to get great service with honest employees who truly care. My husband and I have been taking our cars to Phil & Sons for years and they have ALWAYS been consistently fair and consistenly honest with us. I trust them totally and would recommend them hands-down.
